EPSI Crowdfunding: Democratizing Finance for Sport Innovation

Crowdfunding has become one of the fastest-growing financing tools, helping organisations turn projects into reality by collecting many small contributions from individuals. The numbers are compelling: the global crowdfunding market has reached over $15 billion, with the European market exceeding €1 billion and projected to grow to $1.43 billion by 2030.

For over a year now, EPSI has been helping sports entities access the capital they need to bring their ideas to life, without the traditional barriers of conventional finance.

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or a venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people through internet-based platforms. It’s an open call that creates tangible or intangible benefits in exchange for each economic contribution. There are four typical crowdfunding models: Equity, Lending, Reward/pre-sales or Donation. Each of them unites common features, but they fit specific needs, and this is why it is important to get the right guidance.

Why it matters for EPSI Members

Crowdfunding offers unique advantages that traditional financing cannot match:

  1. The access to capital is simplified. It allows for raising funds faster with less bureaucracy, and it remains continuously available – without the need to wait for grant calls to open or for scheduled investor pitch events
  1. The risk is diluted through market validation. You can test your idea with real customers before committing major resources.
  1. Build a community around a common topic. Engaging the public is fundamental, and this way creates a base of supporters who can also become effective advocates and early customers.
  1. Marketing and visibility are part of the process. Every crowdfunding campaign amplifies your message and builds brand awareness.

You’re not alone: Start with expert guidance

EPSI’s crowdfunding initiative is led by Francesca Passeri, Crowdfunding and Business Development Expert. Francesca guides members through every critical element of a successful campaign, from developing your business model and setting credible funding goals to building community and getting rewards.
