Recognizing the need for strategic guidance and cross-sector collaboration, EPSI begins the 2025 by announcing the establishment of its Steering Committee to address emerging challenges and opportunities in sports, from digital transformation to sustainability. It will guide research, development, and the implementation of projects across sports organizations, businesses, academia, and public entities. Samir Ceric, investor, entrepreneur and philanthropist living in London, is active member of the Committee, alongside EPSI’s Executive Director Alberto Bichi. It will focus on setting priorities and recruiting top industry experts and will serve as advisory body.

The role of the Steering Committee

The EPSI Steering Committee is designed to play a central role in advancing innovation across the European sports ecosystem. It will set the strategic direction and priorities of EPSI, acting as a key facilitator of research, development, and implementation of groundbreaking projects. Its role will extend to support and guidance of EPSIs latest divisions such as Business and Investment Services and the repositioning of its Lobbying arm while combining the activities developed in the Fundraising pillar with typical public funding.

The primary mission of the EPSI Steering Committee will be to foster a sustainable innovation ecosystem in the European sports sector. It will strive to address critical challenges and opportunities in sports, including digital transformation, health and well-being, sustainability, and economic growth. By leveraging expertise across sectors, the committee will seek to ensure that its members not only keep pace with technological advancements but also contribute to broader societal goals.

Key responsibilities of the Steering Committee include:

  • Guiding Strategic Initiatives: Defining priorities for emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, smart sports equipment, data analytics, and sustainability in sports facilities.
  • Promoting Collaboration and Partnerships: Bridging gaps and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, between sports federations, research institutions, tech companies, and public authorities, while encouraging cross-sectoral partnerships.
  • Resource Allocation and Oversight: Ensuring efficient allocation of financial and human resources, providing funding recommendations, and monitoring project progress to align with EPSI’s vision.
Strategic Leadership and Governance

Composed of senior executives from the business and investment sectors within the sports industry, the Steering Committee will ensure strategic decision-making at the highest level. A President or Chair will lead the committee, facilitating discussions and consolidating activities to guide the group effectively. Members will include thought leaders and practitioners from private-sector technology and sports industries, ensuring a wealth of expertise.

By directing resources to impactful projects, the Steering Committee aims to position EPSI as a catalyst for innovation in areas like digital sports, sustainable infrastructure, and sports science. Its work will solidify EPSI’s reputation as a global leader in sports technology and innovation.

Samir Ceric will lead the creation of the Steering Committee, working alongside Alberto Bichi to recruit industry experts and elevate the committee’s strategic influence. Samir’s dedication to innovation and business growth will be instrumental in ensuring the committee’s success, ultimately advancing EPSI’s mission.
