The main objective of the group is the study, design and application of interventions based mainly on physical exercise, as well as studying the effects that this can have on people’s health, both at a preventive and therapeutic level and as a simple physical conditioning tool. The fields of action where our research activity is currently being developed are three:
- Clinical field, through collaboration with various public health centres of the Valencian health system, we have studied and are studying the effects produced by physical exercise in populations with chronic degenerative pathologies, such as osteoarthritis or lumbago. Various investigations have also been carried out with patients with cancer, haemophilia and diabetes.
- Sports, in this field of action we study all the factors involved in the processes of injury during sports practice. With this information, specific preventive programmes are designed according to the sporting speciality, selecting the most suitable exercises to carry out a correct sporting rehabilitation.
- Workplace, through collaboration with Dr. Lars. L. Andersen, head of the department of musculoskeletal damage at The National Research Center of Working Environment, it has been possible to develop various studies related to injuries produced in the working environment, such as healthcare professionals (orderlies, physiotherapists), and other non-healthcare professionals (musicians, administrative staff).
Currently, with the incorporation of new researchers, a new line of research has been created focused on the study of pain and whose objective is to study the mechanisms of learning to chronic pain, as well as all the cognitive processes involved from a biopsychosocial approach.
On the other hand, the other lines are involved in various projects, generating scientific publications in prestigious journals, as well as the presentation of papers at national and international congresses on subjects related to exercise and its effects on people’s health.
