The institute mission is to carry out studies and research aimed at gaining an understanding of the sporting phenomenon in all its aspects related to the social, cultural and economic dynamics as a whole; to explore, describe and explain the links between the spread and rootedness of sporting practices (both professional competitive sports of excellence and amateur competitive sports, and leisure sports or new disciplines more related to nature and personal wellbeing); to investigate individual and social behaviour related to sport, in all its aspects, including contra legem and improper conduct.
The studies and research will pay particular attention to the role of sport in local communities and territories (provinces, regions, cross-border areas, macro-regional areas, vast areas, urban or metropolitan systems, production districts, agricultural districts, networks of cities or territories, mountain or marine communities, trade districts, tourist districts, other possible territorial configurations), in Italy, in Europe and outside Europe. – to make the aforementioned studies and research available to public and private bodies and organisations in charge of and specialised in the formulation and implementation of public, public-private and private policies of public interest, functional to intervention programmes through sport for knowledge-based local development (based on recognised, reliable and codified data and knowledge) and for the improvement of local communities, within the framework of the national, European and international context and markets, in economic, social and environmental terms.
