After five years of annual meetings, during which representatives exchanged ideas about campaigns promoted in their respective countries and recognized the importance of establishing a European body dedicated to Fair Play, delegates from 14 countries decided to create the European Fair Play Movement (EFPM). The Founding Assembly took place at FIFA House in Switzerland on May 27–28, 1994.
The EFPM is a non-governmental association. Since July 2013, its headquarters have been located at the offices of ASKÖ (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Sport und Körperkultur in Österreich), at the following address:
1030 Vienna, Maria Jacobi Gasse 1, Austria.
The EFPM is governed by an Executive Committee composed of nine members elected by the General Assembly from among its members. Committee members are appointed for a four-year term, corresponding to the Olympic cycle. The General Assembly is held once a year, and all members of the Executive Committee serve in an honorary capacity.
Aims
The primary aim of the European Fair Play Movement is to promote Fair Play and Tolerance in the broadest sense—both in sports and in everyday life—across Europe. The EFPM pursues this mission by supporting its members, assisting in the promotion of Fair Play campaigns initiated by sports organizations, cooperating with public authorities to advance Fair Play themes, and facilitating regular contact between various European sports organizations.
